Meet the Coaches

Sam Mashburn, Head Coach

Sam is currently a coach with Dynamo Swim Club.

He was born and raised in Cumming Georgia and started swimming competitively with the Cumming Waves at the age of 5. He swam club with Lanier Aquatics in Gainesville, Georgia. From Lanier, he continued his swimming career at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, North Carolina. He has been coaching now for the past 8 years and has made stops in Mexico, Kentucky, Iowa, North Carolina and Georgia. 

Thomas Benefield, Head Coach

Thomas Benefield grew up swimming at Pangborn Pool starting at age 7. His first swim team memory is the Swim Team Mom asking he was ready to swim. He was and they put him in a 15U race. He was hooked and swam 5 years at Lakeside High School.  When his daughters started summer swim, he was super excited and happy to be back at the pool on Tuesday nights cheering the whole team on!  Thomas has been a 5th grade teacher at Trinity School in the Buckhead/Smyrna for the past 5 years. Before that he was a teacher in DeKalb Schools for 18 years. Thomas is looking forward to bringing his experiences and enthusiasm to the Barracudas!

Caleb Onyango, Assistant Coach

 Caleb is a new coach with the Barracudas this season. He is graduate of Beulah Heights University and a swim instructor and deck manager with Dynamo Swim Club.  He is also a program director with CCFIT

J.R. Hull, Junior Coach

J.R. has been swimming competitively with the Barracudas for the past 10 seasons and with Dynamo Swim Club for the past 9 years.  He volunteers with FAST Fins Adaptive Swim Team and is a graduating senior at St. Pius X High School, where he is a member of the 3-time state championship Varsity swim team.  J.R. will attend Georgia Tech in the fall, where he will major in Industrial Engineering.

Mark Rotolo, Junior Coach

Mark has been part of the Barracudas Swim team since he was 6 years old and been a year round swimmer at Dynamo Swim Club since he was 8. He has competed on the county, state, and regional levels of year round swimming and is returning for his second year of coaching. Mark graduated from Lakeside High School where he was a captain on the Varsity Swim and Dive team. He will attend Georgia Tech in the fall and major in Environmental Engineering. He is excited to help each swimmer get faster and is looking forward to a fun summer. 

Natalie Rotolo, Junior Coach

Natalie is a graduating senior at Lakeside High School and is thrilled to be coaching with the Barracudas again. She has been swimming with the team since she was 6 and swam year-round for 5 years. She is looking forward to this season and excited to start practice! She will be attending the University of Georgia in the fall!

Nora Singh, Junior Coach

Nora began swimming at age 8 with the Barracudas. This will be her third summer coaching at The Beach Club. This will be her first season not swimming with the team, and she already misses it:( She swam competitively for 9 years at both Dynamo Swim Club and Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club. She also swam on the Woodward Academy swim and dive team all four years of high school. She just finished her freshman year of college at UGA (Go Dawgs!) and looks forward to a great season this summer! 

Mikey Young, Junior Coach

Mikey was former Barracuda and Dynamo swimmer and is  immensely  excited to return to BWBC as a swim coach.  He looks forward meeting the new swimmers, helping them develop into speedy barracudas, and ultimately have an amazing summer swim season. He is a  graduating senior from Lakeside High School and will be attending Georgetown University this fall.

Coaches in Training and Big Cudas - They will be instrumental in supporting the "Little 'Cudas" program, assisting with 6 & under practices and on-going coach support. These Barracudas will continue to swim competitively for the team but take on new responsibilities alongside the coaches.

Sunday, April 14, 2019, 3-5pm at the clubhouse.


Swim Suits: Our official swim suit is Nike color block Blk/Red 915 (girls) and Nike color block jammer Blk/Red 915 (boys). Suits can be tried on and purchased at Open House. A suit can be purchased here:

If you need assistance in ordering, please email  customercare@swimshop1.com or call (770) 479-9655.  The official swim suit is not a requirement. However, jammers/briefs are required for boys (no swim trunks) and a one piece suit is required for girls (no two piece suits). If you do not buy a Nike color block jammer, please buy something in black to stay consistent with the rest of the team.

Swim Caps: We encourage all swimmers to wear swim caps while swimming at all times. Barracuda swim caps can be purchased for $5 at Open House

Goggles: Each swimmer is responsible for buying their goggles. Goggles are recommended for all practices and meets. If you are struggling on which goggle is best, the coaches recommend Speedo, Jr. Hydrospex
